Liquid Phones

For the ignorant lot, LOHAS is Lifestyles of Health & Sustainability and a way of life for one out of every six Americans. I’m not faffing about this, but LOHAS consumers shop for products based on their values and world view, reflecting their desire for healthier and more sustainable lives. Catering to this crowd is the Aqua Liquid cellphone that uses liquid fuel cells technology in the name of eco-friendliness; although this lowers the efficiency of the phone.

All the components of the phone are eco-friendly and can be recycled at the end of their journey. The E-Ink display ensures that lesser juice is used up and the phone won’t conk-off mid-conversation!

LOHAS or not, I feel it’s the extremes that we humans demand out of nature lead to imbalances and degradation. I could be wrong about this, but I feel when we do everything in moderation we can add sustainability to every aspect of life. We don’t need to do anything special, we only need to care enough to make that difference.

transformer running shoes

we recently stumbled upon these nike shoe transformer toys. although they were originally released last year,
one can’t help but re-examine these designs. each transformers is packaged in a nike shoe box. inside the box
the toy looks like a typical nike running shoe, however once you start playing around you realize that the shoe
is actually a transformers toy. more images can be found here.

Box Light by Jonas Hakaniemi

hakaniemi_box_light.jpg
No dimmers necessary, simply “Touch the lamp! Create your own light by sliding the lid,” says Jonas. A recent graduate from the Lahti Institute of Design in Finland, his Box light has just received an honorable mention from the Red dot jury. “This is as straightforward as interactive design can get.” We’ve seen similar lights (moree’s Eraser), but the relatively small scale of this one opens up possibilities for creative applications.

LZR RACER- Speedo

Designed by Jimmy Stone, student

“Prior to the 2008 Bejieng Olympics Speedo launched the LZR RACER – the most revolutionary performance swimming suit ever made. In order to leverage positive news of the record breaking achievements of LZR athletes and position Speedo as the brand leader of swimming, I opted to redesign the entire LZR series. The packaging line took on a more modern look with white/silver colors and minimalist typography emphasizing the world breaking times each Speedo athlete achieved. Every package featured a world record time and story which tied back to a LZR website. On the website, users could study training schedules, review/buy product, interact on live chats with athletes, and most importantly keep track of personal LZR times in a member section.”
